The processes presented in this introduction, or “Workshop”, are similar to those used by humans in agriculture 10,000 years ago, but this time with coral. By simplifying the information, and teaching the crucial processes of coral extraction, rehabilitation and propagation, it can be akin to teaching gardening! Instead of trying to train marine biologists, which would take weeks, months or years, energy and resources, we teach divers about coral propagation, which allows for rapid and massive reef reconstruction.

Why do we need this introduction? Anyone can plant and wait for it to grow. But the results differ according to the experience, care and knowledge of each “gardener”. This introduction identifies the different processes that can be used to reduce the stress on corals during these operations, and the importance of monitoring and maintaining cuttings. Also through this course, we make sure that the issues are well understood. It is also important that our gardeners understand the usefulness of following a minimum training course with Ocean Quest Global to be able to carry out these rehabilitation and propagation projects properly and sustainably.
